The Garden Island newspaper reported this week that Ohana Real Estate Investors, LLC, a company supported by billionaire eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, has tapped Discovery Land Company to help brainstorm new ideas for a large and controversial Hanalei development project.
Hanalei Plantation Resort is a proposed development project on the north shore of Kauai, located adjacent to the St. Regis hotel along the shoreline facing Hanalei Bay. The land was previously purchased by Pierre Omidyar in 2008, and development plans up until now have included the creation of more than 30 individual residential lots for sale, along with a relatively small, 80+ room room hotel. More information about the proposed development can be found on the official webpage here: Hanalei Plantation Resort.
Discovery Land Company is the same group recently hired to develop and manage the new phase II development of Princeville at Hanalei.
The current development plan for Hanalei Plantation Resort has faced significant opposition from local organizations. Only time will tell whether Discovery Land Company can offer new ideas that may be more welcomed by the local community.
