Courtesy of the County of Kauai’s Public Information Office, the following notice regarding B&B’s utilizing guest houses in their operations has been published:
The owners of proposed bed and breakfast (B&B) operations with guest houses have until June 19, 2015 to submit completed applications for a Use Permit under Bill 2587 relating to homestays. The bill was passed by the County Council on June 3.
“I am committed to signing the homestay bill and would like to let the owners of proposed B&Bs with guest houses know that they have a limited time to submit completed applications for a Use Permit to the Planning Department,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr.
“The County Council included this provision in the homestay bill because we believe that bed and breakfast units should be contained in the primary dwelling unit. Too often, we have seen guest houses being converted to illegal transient vacation rentals and we don’t want this trend to continue,” said Council Chair Mel Rapozo.
The owners of proposed B&B operations with guest houses must submit completed Use Permit applications by June 19, 2015. No applications for this type of use will be accepted after this date.
The Planning Department will determine whether an application is complete. If an application is not complete, it will not be reviewed by the Planning Commission.
